Style: Full color. Genre: Horror. Time Span: Ancient past. Nudity: Voluptuous girl.
Keywords: Werewolf. Double cheating. Fleas. Uncle Creepy.
Synopsis: To kill a wolfman professor proposes to baron a silver-fanged fleas. As a guineapig baron ties up professor to bring fleas to wolfman.
Comment: Brilliant color artwork and new blood for werewolf storys. First color comics in Creepy. Coverstory for cover by Sanjulian.
Alternatives, Vers.2: Female nipples censored (pg 3,uppest frame and in the middle frames 2 & 4) and open cleavage (pg 8, upper left corner frame) as well.
Alternatives, [VERS.3]: The color version in Werewolf was printed on better paper, so Mr. Corben recolored work. Colors are richer than in the first version.
Alternatives, [VERS.4]: Poorly scanned from magazine.
Alternatives, [VERS.5]: Restored (from several sources, but mainly from the vers.3) with piety by José Villarrubia.
Humour: While Professor Cardiff tries to sell fleas to Baron Talbot, "-- only $499.95 --" he rimies, "After the moon rises, I CAN HOPE the LY-CAN-THROPE will pass near...".
Extra: Baron Talbot is hommage to the old "Wolf Man" movie (1941). The character played by Lon Chaney, Jr. was named Larry Talbot (when he wasn't ripping people apart).
Corben: "Lycanklutz" was the first color story I did for James Warren, and I wanted to prove my skills and inventiveness by creating work that was at least as good as that done by his Spanish technicians. Looking back, the story was kind of childish and silly. But overall I wanted to achieve a bright comic-book version of a Hammer horror movie. [bloody-disgusting.com]
