Mustan Kissan Kuja [FIN] was a Finnish mystery series in the style of Twin Peaks. It was supposed to be 50 chapters long.
Successful doctor Ilpo Karhu (Vesa-Matti Loiri) leaves his job in Turku as he discovers that his wife has been cheating on him with Ilpo’s best friend. After avoiding a black cat, Ilpo returns to his old home in Alho, where he is forced to confront his own past. Ilpo stumbles into the pub called Alhontähkä*, in the center of the small town. There, after more than twenty years, he meets his father Ahti (Aarre Karén). A bigger surprise awaits Ilpo’s beloved of youth, Armi-Ellen (Sari Havas). She suffers from sleepwalking and she was married her father shortly after Ilpo left. In addition to the Karhu family, we also meet the Salo couple Heli-Maaria (Kaija Kärkinen) and Tomi (Petteri Sallinen). Their relationship is disrupted by Tomi’s son Samuli (Karen Nieminen). When countless other characters are thrown in, from the pub owner to the colorful customers, a new 50-part Finnish TV series Mustan kissan kuja (Black Cat Alley) is born. According to the press release, the “Twin Peaks style” series mixes drama with humour and the supernatural á la black cat.

Journey to
Mustan Kissan Kuja [FIN]
Thanks and kudos to Nelonen for Mustan Kissan Kuja [FIN] series. It has got great humor that tickled my stomach. I think it’s great that the creative team has finally dared to cross the boundaries that others have avoided. The best performances were definitely Sari Havas and Outi Mäenpää. I hope the pace continues at the same pace.
Bingo, Pori

Renny Harlin thirsts for more acting roles

Renny Harlin has made a new conquest. “The Hollywood Viking” will now be seen in front of the camera, as director-producer Markus Selin has hired his friend to guest star in the series Susi Rajalla [FIN].
– I didn’t need to convince Renny at all. He was immediately enthusiastic about my idea and answered straight away, “of course.” That man is hungry for more roles, laughs Markus Selin.
Renny will be seen before Christmas in the Susi Rajalla episodes “Negativity” and “You Only Die Twice”. Harlin plays Detective Multan, who is called to investigate the murder of Tomi Salo. Later, Pujo is shot and Heli and Armi are kidnapped.
— The intention was to make a parody of The X-Files and Bond films. A total of three episodes were made, Selin continues.
Harlin’s parts were shot in two last Christmas days. The man took his job seriously and learned his lines on the plane on the way to Finland.
– Renny was extremely nervous because this was his first acting performance, recalls Markus Seli.
Selin also adds that it was not intended to be kept secret, but no one thought to ask us.” CF
Renny Harlin was seen in the Susi Rajalla [FIN] series on Nelonen on 5 and 12, December. The series took a break on December 19, 2000 and return to its new program slot on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM starting January 17, 2001.

Renny Harlin as Detective Multanen
The Susi Rajalla [FIN] series on Nelonen featured a special guest before the Christmas break. Renny Harlin, who played detective Multanen in a couple of episodes, made a new breakthrough as an actor. The man has only appeared in a couple of films so far. I sincerely hope that Nelonen would reprise these two episodes, Negativity and You Only Die Twice. During week 49 was reported that Harlin was hungry for more roles. Give the man a chance!
Antti Ojala, Seinäjoki
The Susi Rajalla [FIN] series will probably be completely renewed at some point, although there is no information yet on which timetable. Since it is an ongoing series, the Renny Harlin episodes will not be renewed separately, out from the context. Unless Renny Harlin makes a cameo role, i.e. appears as himself in another program – anything is possible! If that happens, we will try to tell you about it in advance as early as possible, promises Nelonen’s press release.
