Synopsis, Part 1: Jeremy Brood and his mate Char get a new assining. They land on the planet called Eden. Brood sneaks out in the dark and visits in village near by. Villagers think Brood is the savior, the outworlder, from the sky they are waiting. Brood suppoused to save a sacrificed virgin and after that make love with her, because all Edenites are sterile. When Jeremy returns to ship he confronts the destruction two villians, Crude and Hardy left. And the sky was filled with winged enemies of village. Synopsis, Part 2: Jeremy returns to village and fights against winged monsters (i.e. the hit by a truck ending).
Comment: Jeremy Brood was intented to be a trilogy, but low selling rates of the first issue forces them to cancel production. Though they did not want to leave reades “up in the air”, they did some kind of the conclusion for the story. That is Fantagor #5 ending. [See the ad in Heavy Metal #71 (1983)]Special: The first print (of the first chapter) includes huge amount of preproduction sketches for the serial (pgs 3-7) by Richard Corben and Stan Dresser. The original story’s first two spreads are later in tradebook version in different order: the front and back inner covers (the second spread is in front and the original first spread in back, which is in the very end of the story!). Both spreads are almost abstract fluided color resambling jump in time and space. Different versions give a little bit different result of the story (mostly in mood). The back inner cover of the first print is also in tradeback version; it divides part 1 from part 2. Part 2 starts with opening frame (from Frantagor #5) in tradebook version without indies.
Version [VERS.1]: Printed in Spain by Toutain Editor S.A., as credited on the inside back cover. The list price of $11.95 USA, $15.95 Canada. It is printed on uncoated paper between stiff cardstock covers. It begins with a B&W inside cover facing a color page and ends with the same two images reversed, as in a mirror.
Version [VERS.2]: Printed in Canada, according to the book’s opening credits. The list price of $12.95 USA, $16.95 Canada. It’s printed on glossy paper with a more flexible cover stock. It features the same opening images but recolored (more vividly) and ends with two different B&W swirl patterns. It also uses a different font for the title page, plus a different font on its spine (not stretched out, as in the first version).
Based on the quality of the paper, cover stock, and the overall feel of the book, this version is a big improvement. It resembles the Jeremy Brood: Relativity paperback. It has better color balance in the opening scenes (in outer space and in the forest), but lacks some of the saturation found in later scenes in the first printing. This version also has a few minor artwork misalignments that allow one to glimpse the edge of the original artwork pages (drawn by Corben with a Sharpie, just like the panel borders).
